Step away From The Fridge

So true story… on Easter Sunday I picked out a dress to wear to “Easter Dinner” aka my kitchen. I matched up some jewelry, fixed my hair, put on make up...the whole nine yards I was highly disappointed in myself. It does appear that either my dress shrunk or I've expanded. So i tried on another dress… yeah, same situation. Can I see a showing of hands who can relate.

I think that there are a combination of factors to this unfortunate event. One we are stuck inside with nothing or little to do, I mean you can only read so much, or look at FB some many times right? Another thing is that when we venture out with our facemasks, gloves and hazmat suits to go to the store we are generally stocking up on the essentials and junk food. It's easier to grab a bag of chips then it is to fix a healthy snack.

Emotionally eating is on the rise right now as well. Are we bored, are we stressed, are we anxious about the present and the future or all of the above?

I love to prepare make-ahead meals and freeze them so I have been mixing, baking and cooking up a storm since this whole lockdown began and I'm sure that doesn't help either. Let's face it prior to all of this, my family was lucky to get a meal every night. Now I'm over here like June Cleaver feeding my family a four course dinner every night.

So what are the solutions? I think the first step is to ask yourself are you really hungry or just bored? The harder part is listening to your brain and your gut when it tells you are bored. Maybe get a coloring book, I know that may sound childish but I love to color. When you are bored, break out your coloring book. Maybe download a book you have been wanting to read. Have you ever wanted to write your own book? This is a great time to do that. Maybe you have unfinished crafts or projects you’ve been ignoring. Get them out and dust them off and actually complete them. Download a foreign language app or YouTube channel… It's an amazing time to learn a few words of French, Spanish or German. Think outside the box.

Just remind yourself when you walk into the kitchen to put your hands up and slowly walk away from the fridge and nobody will get hurt.

Comment below what are some of the ideas you can come up with to step away from the fridge?
